34 Other courses Some courses offered by UPE member institutions are open to PhD students, subject to the approval of the course leader: l Masters 2 course at the Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne l Masters 2 course at the Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée l Engineering course at the École des ponts ParisTech l Masters 2 course at the École des ponts ParisTech l Continuing education courses at the École des ponts ParisTech With the approval of the director of your doctoral school youmay also follow certain courses provided by institutions which do not form part of the Université Paris-Est community of universities and institutions. Validation of courses These courses which do not appear in the online catalogue may be validated with the consent of the director of the doctoral school to which you are attached, on presentation of a certificate of attendance. Training commitments l 90 hours (courses, workshops and other activities) throughout your PhD. This requirement is increased to 120 hours (which includes 60 hours of teacher training) for contracted PhD students with teaching duties. l TOEIC: Obligatory practice test during the first year to enable PhD students to assess their level of proficiency in English and official TOEIC test in the year of the thesis defence (score required: 785). Doctoral portfolio The PhD student must keep an up-to-date personal list of all his or her activities during the course (teaching, dissemination of scientific knowledge, technology transfer, etc.). In conjunction with the PhD skills framework, the portfolio provides a means of showcasing skills developed during the production of the thesis.
